Several months ago, this tumblr post >> came across my dash. A post about how sucky Discord's announcement to force age verification for US users was, and how we should move away from using Discord as a storage service, and use a program called Syncthing >> to sync our files.
Now, I admit that I am guilty of having a storage Discord server. I mainly use it to copy links or images so I could access them on my PC or phone. I had recently decided to replace this with a program called Obsidian (which is actually what I use to write my blog posts and update log entries), mentioned in the aforementioned tumblr post. I haven't had to use my Discord server as much, and when I'm done going through it to make sure I don't have anything important in it, I'll be deleting that server.
Syncthing was a lifesaver.
Syncthing is a continuous file syncing program. Basically, if I update my Obsidian vault or my Keepass database on my PC, it'll update the same files on my phone. You specify folders that you want to sync on each device (for example: I have a folder structure like Syncthing/Keepass, where my file sits on both devices), and as long as you are connected to the same internet, it'll sync the folders. It's essentially replaced the need for cloud services (not that I really used anything besides Google Drive anyways). I suggest everyone to try and use it if they can. It's very easy to set up, and I've been happily using it for months now.
